MCSO Explorer Post #2502

As an Explorer, young adults have the opportunity to assist the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office. Explorers can broaden their understanding and firsthand knowledge of the challenges and job skills that make up their community’s law enforcement service. In addition to gaining a working knowledge of police work, the participants have the opportunity to give of themselves to the community. Explorers are volunteers and do not serve as county employees, sworn or civilian.

The Explorers receive specialized law enforcement training, attend weekly meetings and volunteer to perform important community services. Along the way, they learn to work as a team, they gain leadership skills, and they serve the community. The Explorer program instills ethical development for those who may be interested in a law enforcement career.

What We Are Not

The Maricopa County Sheriffs Office Post is not a program for “at risk” youth. An applicant cannot have any arrests and/or convictions for felonies or serious misdemeanors. A member must be able to work independently with other Explorers, Supervisors and Deputies. An applicant must be reasonably physically fit and able to stand for long periods and work in various weather conditions. Explorers must be able to take orders and instructions from other senior Explorers or Explorers of greater rank.
