Annual Relay For Life
In 2015, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office became the first law enforcement agency to hold a Relay For Life, the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Cancer affects all of us...so many of our co-workers and loved ones have been diagnosed...many have been successfully treated...others succumbed to the disease. So given cancer’s immense impact on our organization, we work together to stop cancer - dead in its tracks. Relay For Life offers us a chance to show support, build morale as we celebrate, remember and fight back. We fight back through fundraising for research and support, preventions, detection and treatment programs, and patient services and advocacy. Relay For Life is our way of honoring and remembering our cancer survivors, those currently in treatment, and the loved ones we have lost.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is a Top Ten Fundraising Agency for Special Olympics Arizona. Through events like the Law Enforcement Torch Run, Fry’s Fuel of Dreams, Tip-A-Cop, and our annual Top Golf Tournament, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office raises thousands of dollars to benefit Special Olympic Athletes. The mission of Special Olympics Arizona is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
