Each summer the Sheriff’s Office conducts an annual summer camp (Camp Future Force) for children who attend the S.T.A.R.S. (Sheriff’s Teaching Abuse Resistance to Students) program, currently taught in 30 schools throughout
Maricopa County. The students who attend have all been chosen from their written essays. These essays are the children’s’ promises to stay drug, alcohol, tobacco, gangs, and violence free
The camp is a week full of fun and activities for kids in the fifth grade, ages
10 to 12, in the cool pines near Payson, Arizona. There are many activities with Sheriff’s staff as counselors. Camp Future Force allows the children to interact with Deputy Sheriffs, Detention Officers, Posse Members, and teachers from the various schools. In addition to our curriculum, the children participate in canoeing, horseback riding, archery, go-carts, arts and crafts, and other team building activities. |
