Special Victims Unit Cold Case Registry
In accordance with Arizona Revised Statutes
(A.R.S.) 13-4271, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit maintains a cold case
registry. The cold case registry is for any victim, victim’s family member, or other lawful
representative of a victim of a cold case who requests to be included in the registry. The registry
provides a designated family point of contact for law enforcement with current contact information.
This process provides law enforcement with an avenue to contact the family when there are new developments
in the case.
For the purpose of the registry, a “cold case” is defined by A.R.S. 13-4271 as a homicide or a felony sexual
offense that remains unsolved for one year or more after being reported to a law enforcement agency and that
has no viable and unexplored investigatory leads. In order to submit a request to be included in the cold case
registry, please contact the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit.
